Flash fiction brings many benefits for the writer: it's a great introduction to writing; it focuses writers' minds and think about writing sharply; it's a nice break for more serious stuff; and it's great for anyone with Writers' Block. For readers, flash fiction allows a quick taste of an authors' work, and it's possible to compare and contrast different styles. Flash fiction is a little like canapés at a drinks party.
