ROLAND TYE

Roland Tye in 1979, the Leith resident studied politics at the University of Edinburgh and Leiden in The Netherlands. He worked in policy roles in government, then as a manager at the University of Edinburgh, during which he published his novel Weekender with Comely Bank Publishing. Nowadays he works in Thailand teaching English as a second language.

Roland has always wanted to be a writer, thinking up the story of Weekender 16 years ago. He is inspired by people overcoming adversity, particularly those who have lost everything. Roland has met Syrians through his work who defied incredible odds in order to start a new life in the UK. One of the characters in Weekender – Mr Palavar – has made such a journey and is a symbol of hope in the novel.

Roland is currently playing around with a few ideas for a second novel.
