Around 2010, the University of the Third Age in Edinburgh began running a couple of creative writing courses for experienced people looking for a new direction in their lives. When their tutor decided to call it a day himself, a handful of those attending decided to continue writing and formed their own little writing group.

On the last Thursday of each month, the group meet to discuss the short stories they've written, and each writer in turn has to set a theme for the following month's meeting. In 2025, now called Auld Reekie Scrievers, they asked Gordon Lawrie from Dean Park Press to edit and assemble a selection of their best short stories into a collection: Pulling at Threads. It's an eclectic mix, and as with most short story collections, there should be something for everyone.
