How do you find reviewers for your books? CreateSpace blogger Maria Murnane addressed this issue in a blog for the Amazon-owned self-publishing platform this week.
Finding reviewers can be frustrating. One way to get reviews is to reach out to other authors, Murnane says. We would agree with that here at Comely Bank Publishing. Authors are the ones that will truly understand how much effort goes into writing a book. Authors are the people most likely to take the time to read and review honestly. Their reviews may not necessarily be kind, but at least they understand what a huge feat of effort writing is.
Murnane makes the following recommendations for finding people to review your book:
Book Blogger Directory
Book Blogger List
100 Best Blogs for Book Reviews
Book Bloggers International
It’s likely that people on such directories or bloggers receive a huge number of requests. Murnane recommends you send each a personalised note, something that reveals you have made an effort to find out about this person. A generalised email that includes the data protection sin of including all the email addresses you have sent the same email to isn’t likely to impress.
Murnane also suggests that once you identify a blog that is perfect for your book, you check out who that blogger is following, as many will be following book reviewers too. This gives you a way to find other book reviewers.
Another suggestion is to ask book bloggers to post their review on Amazon, as well as on their blog.
